The ever impressive Pontypriid  were out for revenge as we were one of the only two sides to beat them last year. When we arrived they only had 14 players and we gave them a winger to make the sides even. With a large squad we made several changes to the starting lineup, which disrupted us at scrum and lineout time. However we started very well and again some fine tactical kicking from Lloyd saw us gain a lineout just outside the 22. A great take from Liam saw us move the ball to Lloyd who dummied and sailed under the posts for a great try, and wait for it He KICKED THE CONVERSION UNDER THE POSTS. The powerful Ponty side then began to get in the game aided by a few missed tackles from us and only some fine tackling from our back line kept them out. Eventually we gained some territorial advantage and Lloyd kicked a fine penalty to put us 10-0 up at halftime although we did have the slope it seemed we could hold out.

The second half saw Ponty up their game and continue to move the ball wide and seemed to create overlaps far too easily and eventually after continued pressure scored out wide. They were now in control and only a superb tackle from Alex saved a certin try.(he was yellow carded for it mind) . Then from the resulting penalty and after what seemed to be about 5 knock ons, 4 offsides and a partridge in a pear tree the ref awared them with a very very dubious try. 10 all and all to play for.

This score seemed to lift us and we spent the last 10 minuntes on the attack only to find the Ponty defence in a stern mood. From another lineout turnover in their own 22 ponty moved it to the dangerous centre (who had been kept quiet throughout by Rio) who spotted a small Gap(cian) and run the length of the field to score a breathtaking try converted and pinch the game 17-10.

This wasnt half as bad as the supporters made out, yes Morgan had a bad day at he office with his throwing but he wasnt helped by the ref or the constant changes in personnell, and made up for it around the field. Our scrum was also under pressure bit it was Leigh's first game fo 6 months. Nathan couldnt pass wind without a forward getting in the way, and we all went two yards too far with the ball instead of giving the easy pass. BUT  Please dont forget we were playing against a very strong side who yes only had 14 players, but did not have to change players every 20mins either, these are not excuses but facts, and I think we all need to get behind them and give them our full support and regain our confidence ahead of the cup games ahead. RANT OVER.

On the plus side our backs looked dngerous with the ball in hand Jack in particular, but MOM this week was LLoyd who proved what a quality player he can be  and looked dangerous throughout.
